What are jawline and chin fillers?
This treatment uses a dense, firm hyaluronic acid (HA) gel – occasionally calcium hydroxylapatite instead – injected deep on the jawbone and on the chin. The aim may be a clearer jaw angle, a smoother line from the ear to the chin, or bringing a small, set-back chin further forward.
How the chin and jaw are shaped has a large effect on the profile and on the proportions of the lower face. A chin brought slightly forward can make the nose seem smaller and the neckline look sharper. Chin augmentation is among the uses the FDA has approved for absorbable (temporary) fillers.
Who is a good candidate for jawline and chin fillers?
The treatment suits healthy adults with a soft jawline, a chin that sits slightly back or the first signs of jowls, who want a temporary improvement without surgery.
| Generally a good fit | Wait, or talk it through first |
|---|---|
| A small chin, or one that sits slightly back | A strongly retruded chin, where surgery may do better |
| A jaw angle that is soft or hard to see | Very lax skin or pronounced jowls |
| A dip in front of the jowls (pre-jowl sulcus) | Fat-related fullness below the chin (see chin liposuction or double chin lipolysis) |
| Unevenness of the jaw or chin | A dental infection, or dental work due in the next weeks |
| Wanting a stronger profile with no operation | Being pregnant or breastfeeding |
Which areas of the jaw are treated?
A 2019 review of chin and jaw enhancement without surgery suggests approaching the jawline as a single aesthetic unit made up of several zones, each with its own technique and safety considerations. It also recommends small volumes at each injection point, both for a natural look and to lower the risk of serious events.
| Zone | Possible change | Usual depth |
|---|---|---|
| Angle of the jaw | A clearer corner at the back of the jaw | Deep, directly on bone |
| Body of the jawline | A straighter line from the angle towards the chin | Deep, in the fat layer, or both |
| Pre-jowl dip | A shallower hollow just in front of the jowls | Deep plus under the skin |
| Chin | More projection, length or width | Deep, directly on bone |
How is the treatment performed?
- Consultation and profile study. Photos are taken from the front and from the side, and Dr. Yazır looks at the proportions between nose, lips, chin and neck.
- Planning. The zones and the total volume are agreed; a larger change may be split over two sessions.
- Numbing. Anaesthetic cream goes on the skin, and the filler itself normally contains lidocaine.
- Injecting. Filler is placed little by little with a needle, a blunt cannula or both, and symmetry is checked from the front and in profile.
- Afterwards. Cooling packs are placed on the skin, and you leave with written aftercare instructions and an emergency contact number.
A 2026 randomised trial compared two dense HA products for enhancing the chin. Patients received just under 2 ml on average, and the authors judged both products safe and effective.
What does recovery look like?
| After treatment | Typical course |
|---|---|
| The first 24–48 hours | Soreness, swelling, maybe a bruise; no exercise, alcohol or pressure on the jaw |
| Days 3 to 7 | Swelling going down; chewing can still feel a little tender |
| Around 2 weeks | The filler has settled; result checked and any top-up planned |
| Months 6 to 12 | The effect slowly softens as the gel is absorbed |
How do I plan my trip to Izmir?
For jaw and chin filler, 1–2 days in Izmir is usually enough. The clinic is in the Egeperla building in Konak, roughly 25–30 minutes by car from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB).
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Consultation, profile photos and injections |
| Day 2 | An optional check of swelling and symmetry; you fly home once Dr. Yazır agrees |
| Around 2 weeks on | Follow-up with photos sent over WhatsApp |
How long do the results last?
A randomised controlled study evaluated an HA gel for defining the jawline. At six months, 69% of treated participants counted as responders, whereas only 38% did so in the untreated controls; one year on, the improvement was still present. Results differ between people, and keeping the effect normally means a top-up at some stage.
What are the risks of jawline and chin fillers?
In that same jawline study, most reactions at the injection sites were mild to moderate and cleared within two weeks. Risks to be aware of:
- Soreness, swelling and bruising
- Unevenness or lumps that can be seen
- A jaw that appears overly wide or heavy after overfilling
- Infection, or inflamed nodules appearing later
- Vascular occlusion – the facial artery lies close to the jaw and chin, and filler that enters a vessel can harm the skin
Consensus guidance points out that knowing the facial anatomy, choosing the product carefully and using sound technique lower these risks, and that whoever injects must be able to manage a complication immediately. If needed, hyaluronidase can dissolve HA filler.
Can jawline filler be combined with other treatments?
Yes – the lower face is frequently planned as a whole. Cheek fillers give the midface back its support, which can make the jawline look neater, and lip fillers can keep the lips in proportion with a chin that now projects more. When fat causes the fullness below the chin, filler alone can add weight to the lower face, so double chin lipolysis or chin liposuction may come first. How much is used overall, and in which sequence, is agreed during the consultation.
Why do patients choose Izmir for jawline and chin fillers?
Only a short stay is required, so the treatment is easy to fit into a visit to Izmir on the Aegean coast. Dr. Yazır, an ENT and head & neck surgeon whose practice focuses on facial aesthetic surgery, looks at the chin together with the nose and the neck, and will bring up surgical routes such as rhinoplasty or chin liposuction if they fit your goals better. Prices are also lower than in the UK or USA – the estimated comparison is shown below. Other areas are covered in our dermal fillers overview.
